Bangladesh officially the People's
Republic of Bangladesh is a country in South Asia. The highest point in
Bangladesh is in Mowdok range at 1,052 metres in the Chittagong Hill
Tracts to the southeast of the country. A major part of the coastline comprises
a marshy jungle, the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world and
home to diverse flora and fauna, including the Royal Bengal Tiger. Bangladesh
is a parliamentary democracy with Islam as the state religion.
Country is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, SAARC, BIMSTEC, the OIC, and the D-8. the country has made significant progress in human development in the areas of literacy, gender parity in schooling and reduction of population growth. Direct elections involving all citizens over the age 18 are held every five years for the unicameral parliament known as Jatia Sangsad.
